What is Emotional Intelligence?

Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence refers to one's ability to recognize and manage one's own emotions as well as the emotions of others.

Emotional intelligence usually involves at least three skills: emotional awareness, or the ability to recognize and name one's own emotions; The ability to deal with those emotions and apply them to tasks such as thinking and problem solving; And the ability to manage emotions, including regulating one's own emotions when needed and helping others to do the same.

There is no standardized psychological test or scale for emotional intelligence because "G," is a general intelligence component, and many people claim that emotional intelligence is not a real construct, but a way of describing mutual skills with other names.

Despite this criticism, the concept of emotional intelligence - sometimes referred to as the emotional part or the EQ. It has received wide acceptance. In recent years, some employers have incorporated the tests of emotional intelligence into their application and interview process on the theory that someone higher than emotional intelligence will make someone a better leader or colleague.

Some studies have found a link between emotional intelligence and job performance, but many have shown no association and because it is not scientifically valid, it is difficult to accurately measure or estimate one's emotional intelligence on the job or at home.
